About us

Six women. Each is unique, profound, complicated. Beautiful. We come together despite our differences to blend our voices in polyphonic harmony into song.
Neha! was created in 2020, when the COVID pandemic was raging in Slovakia. In challenging times, we found in each other our own little island of positive deviance, safety and ever-evolving friendship. The band was formed based on the strong vision of Vranka (Zuzana Žiaková), who saw the potential in every member she invited to the project. Their strengths are diversity, unconventionality, commitment and courage, evident in both the music and the personality of each of them.
In the early days, conductor and choir director Bohdana Ljashko joined the singers, inspired by their passion for polyphonic singing. She helped bring a significant level of musical professionalism to the newly formed group, which gathered for the joy of singing.
Neha! began performing concerts in the summer of 2021 at popular summer festivals and events such as the Letná slávnosť na Sekierskych lúkach, HippieJam, StreetArt Fest Piešťany, and Drienok. Their first concert outside Slovakia was at the Pilsen Busking Fest in the fall of 2021, where they played alongside the band TAU and their friends from the band Varkocs.
In 2022, the global situation called them to sing for peace. Together, they performed at six concerts in support of Ukraine. In addition to these, Neha! played nearly 30 more concerts that year and began getting accustomed to larger, more professional stages.
That same year, conductor and music producer Anton Popovič attended one of their concerts and soon joined Neha! as an artistic supervisor. Since then, his professional insight has helped shape their artistic potential on a deeper level.
The members of Neha! discovered early on that the group isn’t just about the joy of singing, though that’s a point they always return to. However Neha! wouldn’t be tenderness (the Slovak word “Neha” is translated into english is tenderness) if the singers didn’t put a lot of attention into interpersonal relationships. They understand that only by cultivating tenderness within themselves and among one another can they truly embody and share it with the world. The harmony of their voices is the result of shared days and nights, mutual support, witnessing each other’s vulnerability, deep listening, moments of struggle, and continuous learning.
Neha! isn’t only about singing, but also raising themes that are fresh and relevant, whether in the lives of the singers or in society. Thanks to their outlook on life and the concept of radical tenderness, Neha! has naturally become part of civic activism. Their mission is to bring a message of tenderness and understanding—one that unites and, even in highly polarized contexts, can introduce a sense of compassion and humanity.
Neha! creates space for improvisation in their performances and enjoys exploring the boundaries between audience and artist. The singers invite the audience into improvisation, and connect with them beyond the barriers of the stage. They experiment with different performative elements that enhance the experience.
The World Music Festival Bratislava, led by Jarmila Vlčková, has played a significant role in Neha!’s journey, with members Belinda and Vranka contributing to its organization. In 2022, three singers from Neha! performed at the festival alongside Michal Smetanka, the band Wernyhora, and also with project Alapastel.
By 2023, Neha! took the stage in full ensemble for a showcase concert, introducing their work to delegates from international festivals.
These performances led to an exciting opportunity—an invitation to a residency and the Aux Heures d’Été festival in France. Neha! spent 11 unforgettable days in the charming city of Nantes, delivering a series of memorable concerts.
Neha!’s trips abroad always open up new horizons, strengthen the singers’ relationships and, most importantly, build friendships that remain in their hearts.
A special musical friendship was also formed during Neha!’s concert at the legendary A38 Ship club in Budapest in November 2023, where they shared the stage with the iconic singer Palya Bea. Another highlight of the year was their performance at the Atmosféra festival, an important milestone in their 2023 journey.
One of the most profound experiences for the group was the Radically tender tour in eastern Slovakia. In October 2023, Neha! visited four Roma settlements, continuing the initiative started by the band RozpoR with their Radikálne Ľudská Tour. With this project, Neha! set out to bring music to places that many tend to overlook.
You can read more about the Radically tender tour in articles available in the Press section of the EPK subpage.
2024 was the year Neha! truly brought all their forces together. Thanks to a successful Donio crowdfunding campaign, they raised the funds needed to record and release their album.
As a group of six women—one of whom was expecting a child at the time—they “gave birth” to their album, Neha! Svetu, in the recording studio. They were strongly supported by Tono Popovič and vocal coach Lenka Paulíková.
For the recording, they invited several guest artists, including beatboxer Emil “Esso” Smoliga, percussionist Roman Turtev, cellist Juraj Škoda, harpist Andy Aquarius, and percussionist Michal Fedor.
That year they also played at the important Alkantara Fest in Sicily, the Marathon of Music in Brno, performed at Teleráno, sang at a double concert with Trio Mandili and sang at many protests and rallies for culture, freedom, democracy and peace.

Organizer, manager, a bit of a marketer and a graduated (almost) teacher. An artist with a wide range of interests, from music to visual arts, dance and performance. Others’ words
Milan Tesař
Music publicist, Head of World music charts Europe

„Neha! is a band with a concept. The stories hidden in the songs they perform are connected to the band’s own story and to the ideas that its members spread among their fans. The red colour, as part of this concept, can symbolize femininity, energy, determination, but also revolution – in the sense that the band wants to change the world for the better through their music. However, none of this would be enough if the ladies of Neha! were not talented and didn’t bring truly interesting music. Some time ago, I had the chance to see the band live at the World Music Festival in Bratislava, and this year, I watched their live session from Radio Proglas, Brno. It’s obvious that the band has found its path, knows how to captivate, knows how to work with folk songs in its own way, and is becoming more credible and better year after year.„
ANTON POPOVIČ
Artistic supervisor and producer of Neha!’s debut album

“I began my collaboration with Neha! in 2022 as an artistic supervisor. Over the past two years, I have clearly witnessed how these singers have developed their skills, refined their artistic concept, and made significant technical improvements. Recently, I had the opportunity to produce their debut album, which will soon showcase this progress to the public. I am glad to be part of this unique project, which reflects the strong dedication of six original and passionate artists.“
PALYA BEA
Hungarian singer & songwriter

“I met the vocal group Neha! in a collaboration. It was a deeply professional and emotional encounter. The singers of Neha! took my invitation real serious. We made a song together – they not only have learnt the Hungarian lyrics by heart with perfect prononciation, but they have written new parts in their own language, and harmonized under each melodical lines, adding new layers to that song. It was rich musical encounter, a beautiful feminine explosion.“
Rostislav Maslovich
TV and Music Producer

“I saw Neha! performance this year in Slovakia while I was on tour with Trio Mandili. I was astonished by their arrangments of traditonal songs and their stage presence. Many bands interpret traditional music, but it’s Neha!’s versatility, original approach, humour, and authentic, visally appealing show that make them stand out.”
ANNAICK DOMERGUE
